Shikunshi Motif (Shikunshi Mon’yō):The Shikunshi motif, also known as the “Four Gentlemen” motif, is a traditional East Asian design that features four specific plants: the plum blossom, orchid, bamboo, and chrysanthemum. These plants are collectively referred to as the “Four Gentlemen” because they each represent virtues associated with the ideal Confucian scholar-gentleman. The plum blossom symbolizes resilience and purity, blooming in the cold of winter. The orchid represents elegance and refinement. Bamboo stands for integrity and strength, while the chrysanthemum signifies dignity and perseverance. This motif is commonly used in painting, ceramics, textiles, and other traditional arts to express moral values and aesthetic harmony.

Mino-yaki (Mino ware) is a traditional type of Japanese pottery produced in Gifu Prefecture. It has a history of over 1,300 years and is known for its diversity in styles and designs.
