“KARESANSUI” (dry landscape garden) is a gardening technique that represents the flow of water, waterfalls, and other natural elements without actually using water, instead using white sand, stones, moss, and similar materials. White sand or small pebbles are often spread out to symbolize the surface of water. This abstract style of garden design developed especially in Zen temples during the Muromachi period. Famous examples of karesansui gardens include the rock gardens of Ryōan-ji and Daisen-in of Daitoku-ji in Kyoto.
The patterns vary slightly from piece to piece.
Mino-yaki (Mino ware) is a traditional type of Japanese pottery produced in Gifu Prefecture. It has a history of over 1,300 years and is known for its diversity in styles and designs. Unlike some other types of Japanese ceramics that follow strict traditions, Mino ware is highly adaptable and has evolved over time to meet different artistic and functional needs.
One of its key characteristics is the variety of glazes used, such as Shino, Oribe, and Setoguro. Each glaze creates unique textures and colors, making Mino ware highly valued for both daily use and artistic expression. Additionally, Mino ware is often lightweight and durable, making it practical for everyday life.
Today, Mino ware continues to be produced using both traditional and modern techniques, ensuring its relevance in contemporary pottery.
